"The results showed that eyelid hygiene with Blephaclean wipes by subjects with anterior blepharitis or MGD significantly improved the status of the eyelid margin tissues including the meibomian glands" © 2012 Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists, Inc.

What is Blephaclean?

Blephaclean is a daily eyelid wipe containing a gentle, micellar solution, free from preservatives, parabens, soap and perfumes. Blephaclean keeps the eyelids clean whilst respecting the skin around the eyes and its natural bacteria.
Blephaclean wipes are used to help treat symptoms of blepharitis (eyelid inflammation) which is commonly associated with dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction.

What are Blephaclean Side Effects?

The following events have been reported with Blephaclean: burning or itching sensation for some minutes after use, redness or swelling of the eyelids, allergic reactions. Blephaclean is for use on the skin only, do not put directly into the eyes.

Who is Blephaclean for?

Blephaclean is suitable for anyone with sensitive skin, eyelids or eyes, when you need to remove dust, pollen and discharge your eyelids (due to allergy or infection), when you have inflammation or infection of the eyelids (blepharitis, Meibomian gland dysfunction, stye, chalazion, dry eye etc),

Blephaclean is suitable for the most sensitive eyes so is recommended for use before and after surgery, based on the advice from your doctor, optometrist or ophthalmologist. If you wear contact lenses we advice you to remove them before using Blephaclean. Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredient.

Is Blephaclean Safe?

Blephaclean is safe for adults and children over 3 months old.

Blephaclean wipes are clinically proven to reduce symptoms of blepharitis; after 21 days of twice-daily use, patient OSDI scores were reduced to ‘asymptomatic’ in 55% of patients, with significant overall improvements in ocular comfort.

Blephaclean wipes improved ocular symptoms, with patients reporting less crusting around the eyelashes, redness around lid margins, heavy or puffy eyelids and eyelids stuck together in the mornings.

Blepharitis is a key cause of cataract cancellations. Providing pre-operative cataract patients with lid hygiene advice resulted in a 58% reduction in cancellation rates. Microbial load on the eyelid was significantly reduced after using Blephaclean for 3 days compared to placebo.

How to use Blephaclean?

Contact lenses should be removed before use. For hygiene of eyelids and eyelashes:

Gently apply the pad to the eyelids and the base of the eyelashes. Carefully massage the eyelids with small circular movements, gently removing any crusts, secretions or makeup.

For hygiene of the eyelid margin:

(i) In front of a mirror, carefully open the eyelids by lightly pulling on the lashes. Wrap the wipe round your first (index) finger and carefully rub the eyelid margin.

(ii) Blephaclean is a sterile product, for single-use only. Do not use again, as this may mean the pad works less well and can increase the risk of infection.

(iii) Do not use the wipe if the sachet is opened or damaged. The colour of the wipe (lotion) may vary. This is due to natural plant extracts and is normal.

(iv) Stop using Blephaclean and contact your doctor, optometrist or pharmacist if your symptoms get worse.

(v) Do not use after the expiry date clearly marked on the outer box and on the sachet. The expiry date refers to the product in intact packaging, stored correctly.

(vi) Any wipe should be thrown away after use into the household waste. Store between 8 and 25°C.

KEEP OUT OF THE SIGHT AND REACH OF CHILDREN.
